I have an Original Colonial Issue Nepalese Brunswick P1837 Brass Handle Sword Bayonet for use with the Nepalese model 1841 Brunswick smoothbore. 704 caliber percussion musket rifle. The original scabbard was made of leather. This was the first Percussion Military Rifle, beginning production in 1836 and was modeled to replace the famous Baker Flintlock Rifle of the Napoleonic era... A design copied from the military of the Duke of Brunswick, a German cousin of Queen Victoria. The bayonet is basically crudely modeled on the rare British Pattern 1801 Baker Sword Bayonet. The Nepalese Brunswick rifles and bayonets date from the mid-19th Century Circa 18401860. The Brunswick rifles were used with great success in Britain's expanding Colonial empire and they were manufactured by both the'Royal Nepalese Armory' and the'British East India Company' using a mix of British and locally made parts. India was at the time under the authority of the Honourable East India Company. This particular example was made by the East India Company and survived thousands of miles of travel across land, sea, and plenty of combat. It was probably first issued in India and most likely it would have been used in combat during the Sikh War. It probably also survived a brutal mutiny in India in 1857 in which the British valiantly fought with the Ghurkas and EIC to defeat the mutineers at Meerut. Unlike most Nepalese bayonets, this did not come from the 43-ton cache of weaponry found in 2003 in the arsenal of the Royal Nepalese Armory which was stored between wars and conflict in the Lagan Silekhana In Kathmandu, the Armory housed more than 50,000 firearms; over 150 ancient bronze cannon; tens of thousands of bayonets; and all manner of tools and accessories, that all ended up in the US.

This was hand-tooled over 150 years ago, it has an attractive spiral brass grip complete with "D" knuckle guard and hand-forged beaten iron single-edge sword blade with a short back edge measuring 21 inches in length. This has no makers marks or stamps. #If you are fitting this to a rifle please note you may have to make some adjustments, as each bayonet was specifically fitted to each gun when issued over 150 years ago. If this is not for you I also have other unusual Bayonets and Militaria Finds in my shop. Please go to my store to see the full range.

This item is a genuine Antique and was handmade over 150 years ago, used in multiple wars and it is in good condition for its age. This is showing age and marks from warfare with scratches and dings to both the handle and the blade. The brass handle is showing forge marks, and stain and is missing a notch on the D shaped piece that helped lock the scabbard on. The spring release catch works well and has been restored. The blade is not sharp but is in good original condition with remnants of a deep blued finish and showing forge marks. Photos do not show the actual size so please make sure you read the description page to get the exact measurements. Colors may display differently depending on your computer and settings.
