Vintage 1878 1910 Kingdom of Siam Diplomatic Court Sword

Submitted for your approval: A rare diplomatic court from the kingdom of Siam, now known as Thailand. While of little use as an offensive weapon, court swords were created as a badge of rank or status. The brass hilt retains a portion of the gold gilding.

The coat of arms on the langet was in use from 1878 - 1910; pommel is comprised of 4 conjoined elephants intricately cast with open spaces in fine detail; grip is typical 4 panel beaded variety; grip also has a release button which holds it securely in the scabbard which is constructed with back stitched leather with all stitching intact; blade has surface wear and measures 21 1/2 inches in length, 28 1/4 inches over all in the scabbard; blade is lightly etched on both sides with a hard to read primitive design; bottom scabbard fitting has small dent; frog stud is in the form of a scallop shell.
